M6 re-opens after lorry overturns

M6 surface work
The surface had to be relaid after the spill

A section of the M6 motorway which was closed after a lorry overturned has been re-opened.

The motorway was shut in both directions between junction 18 at Holmes Chapel and junction 19 at Tabley after the accident in the early hours.

The lorry spilt bitumen across the road surface, meaning it had to be re-laid, Cheshire Police said.

The Highways Agency re-opened both carriageways at lunchtime and said backed-up traffic was moving.

The surrounding roads, especially the A556 at Knutsford have also been congested.
