Woman dies after fence car crash

A 19-year-old woman has died and a man is critically ill after a car crashed into a fence in Greater Manchester.

Officers were called to the A49 Warrington Road in Newton in the early hours of Friday and found a man and woman trapped inside an MG sports car.

Both were cut free and taken to hospital. Phillipa Campbell, from Hawkley Hall, who was a passenger in the car, later died, police said.

The 21-year-old driver remains in a critical condition.

The road has been reopened.
