Airport begins noise consultation

Manchester Airport
The aiport is holding meetings for local people to discuss noise issues

Residents are being asked for their views on a new plan to manage noise at Manchester Airport.

The airport has a range of noise policies, including restricting the use of noisy aircraft at night, but the aim is to make further improvements.

Environmental Health officers from across the region have been working with the airport's environment experts for two years to produce a new policy.

Residents are being asked for their views before the policy is finalised.

The proposal includes reducing the daytime threshold above which noise fines are issued as well as increasing the penalty for breaching the noise limit.

Dr Tim Walmsley, the airport's, head of environment, said: "Our approach to managing the environmental impact of our operation is about striking the right balance between reducing the negative effects whilst maximising the economic and social benefits that the airport brings to the region.

"We are keen to hear from local people about what they think we are doing right or what we could be doing better in order to achieve the right balance."

People have until 21 October to submit their ideas to the consultation.

Six meetings will be held across Greater Manchester and Cheshire for residents living near the airport to discuss the details of the plan and give their feedback.
