Teenage attack victim 'critical'

A teenager is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked in Manchester city centre.

Police were called to London Road, outside the Spar, on Saturday nights after reports of a disturbance.

An 18-year-old suffered serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition at Hope Hospital.

Eight men were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and violent disorder and have been bailed until the end of the month.

Det Insp Mark Roters, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This was a brutal assault, which took place in an area which was busy on Saturday night.

"There must have been quite a lot of people in the area who were shocked by seeing a man being punched and kicked while he was on the ground."
