Man's body pulled from city canal

A body has been found in a canal in Manchester city centre.

Police were called to Whitworth Street in Manchester city centre, following reports a body had been seen in the canal at about 0430 BST.

Officers attended and recovered the body of a man believed to be between 50 and 60-years-old.

Inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
