Appeal a year after arson deaths

No one has been charged in connection with the fire

The family of a 71-year-old woman and her granddaughter who died in an arson attack in Bolton are appealing for anyone with information to help police.

Hameeda Begum, 71, Alana Mian, four, died a year ago in the fire in Little Holme Walk, in Great Lever.

Mrs Begum's husband, Mumtaz Chishti, said those who had information but had not come forward to help the investigation were "cruel".

A 22-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were arrested and are on bail.

Bravery award

The blaze started in a bin at the front of the house.

Det Ch Insp Andy Peach, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "It is sad to think that a year has gone by and the family devastated by this horrendous ordeal are still waiting for justice.

"This investigation is still very much ongoing and I strongly believe there are people in the community that have information but, for whatever reason, have still not spoken to police.

"I urge you to come forward, no matter how insignificant you think the information maybe, please let us decide."

Alana's mother, Saima, and firefighter Steve Morris, were seriously hurt but have since been released from hospital.

Mr Morris was given a Recipient of Courage accolade for his bravery.
