Police are warning of disruption in Manchester city centre for the BUPA Great Manchester 10K Run 2009. About 33,000 participants set off from Portland Street near to its junction with Oxford Street. The course goes out of the city into Trafford and Salford before returning into the city centre to finish on Deansgate by the Hilton Hotel. Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie won the 10km race in a time of 27 minutes 39 seconds. Affected roads include Portland Street, Deansgate, Sackville Street, Princess Street, Bridgewater Way, Chester Road and Sir Matt Busby Way. The 10K run is part of the GreatCity Games Manchester, which also includes a 150m race, in which Usain Bolt will be competing.
