Cyclist killed as car drives off

A cyclist was killed when he was hit by a car which failed to stop.

The man suffered serious head injuries in the collision in Urmston, Manchester, at 0245 BST on Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the cyclist was struck by a silver BMW that did not stop. Tests are being carried out on a similar car that was later found in Irlam.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Det Ch Insp Martin Hickson appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He added: "This collision resulted in the loss of a young man's life and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact us.

"The driver of the car will know they have collided with something yet they still did not stop at the scene to help the victim.

"Any information about this collision, no matter how small, could help us."
