Two girls held over fatal crash

Two 17-year-old girls have been arrested on suspicion of causing a crash in which a pedestrian died in Manchester, said police.

The man, aged 65, was crossing Mount Road in Gorton, at 1530 BST on Tuesday when he was struck by a stolen black Vauxhall Vectra.

He suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.

The pair arrested, from Gorton, are being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The stolen car with the registration YF52 0AX, was found abandoned shortly after on nearby Cranmere Avenue.

Two men and two women were seen fleeing the area.

Police believe the car may have been driving erratically along Mount Road shortly before the accident.
