Blind man is attacked and robbed

Robbers attacked a blind elderly man in his own home in Salford and escaped with cash.

Police were called to Lancaster Road in Hope after reports that an 82-year-old man had been robbed between 2030 and 2050 BST on Friday.

They had burst into the pensioner's flat before forcing his arm up his back, police said.

One robber held on to the man while the other searched the house for valuables. They ran off with a quantity of cash.

Detective Constable Horace Bell said: "This was a cowardly attack on a man who is frail.

"Fortunately he has not been injured, but he's certainly been left feeling shaken and upset.

"Because the victim is blind, he has not been able to provide us with a description of the offenders, so I'm appealing to anybody who may have been in the area at the time and who saw any part of this robbery to call us."
