An 18-year-old motorcyclist has died after he was knocked down by a car which did not stop.

Police officers were called to Phoebe Street in Ordsall, Salford, on Monday afternoon, after reports that a car had hit a cyclist.

Adam Jama, of Goodier Drive, Ordsall, later died in hospital.

Greater Manchester Police said a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a car has been recovered.

Driver appeal

The car which hit Mr Jama was a red Golf GTI, travelling in convoy with a blue Audi, which was later found abandoned.

The driver of the Audi ran off and police are appealing for him to come forward.

Mr Jama's parents Adam Snr and Maxine Switzer, and sister Lauren, 14, said in a statement that he was a "popular, fun loving and loveable young man".

"His family and numerous friends will miss him dearly," they said.
