ITV pulls out of MediaCity move

ITV will remain at its Quay Street base in the city centre

ITV Granada is to stay at its current Greater Manchester base after rejecting a move to MediaCity at Salford Quays.

MediaCity, which opens in 2011, will be the new northern home of the BBC with 2,500 jobs moving north from London over the next three years.

ITV said it had terminated negotiations after the site's owners, Peel Holdings, "dramatically" scaled back its financial commitment to the move.

ITV said: "We will remain at our Quay Street base for the future."

The BBC will be the main tenant at MediaCity, with five departments moving from the capital, including Radio Five Live and BBC Sport.

The BBC's current base on Manchester's Oxford Road will also transfer to the site.
