'Illegal' vodka factory arrests

Still found in raid (Pic: Greater Manchester Police)
Police believe the still was being used to make illegal vodka

Two men have been arrested after a suspected illegal vodka distillery and a cannabis farm were discovered during a raid in Oldham.

Hundreds of gallons of flammable liquids, including ethanol and alcohol, were found around a large still.

Up to 130 cannabis plants were also found on the industrial estate off Schofield Street, Hathershaw.

Two men, aged 26 and 29, have been arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and customs offences.

'Poisonous substance'

Det Con Dave Millwood said: "We have stopped thousands of pounds worth of drugs from hitting the streets and also uncovered what we believe is an illegal vodka factory.

"In the past, illegally produced vodka has proved to be extremely hazardous and potentially lethal due to the high concentration of alcohol in the liquid.

"As well as disrupting a criminal operation, from a public safety point of view, we have stopped this poisonous substance from harming anyone."
