Machine gun found in police raid

A machine gun, pistol and ammunition have been found by police during a raid on a house in Manchester.

The search of the home in Saxbrook Walk in Sharston, Wythenshawe, was part of a day of action to tackle burglary by Greater Manchester Police officers.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing firearms and will be questioned later.

Police said they were working hard to target criminals who possess firearms to stop guns being used on the streets.

Det Sgt Lee Price said: "All weapons are deadly, but what we recovered today were two very dangerous guns that were live and had the ability to fire live ammunition.

"Clearly, these weapons could have been used in other serious crimes and if fired, someone could have been seriously injured or even killed."
