Victim run over then badly beaten

A man was deliberately run over in a car before being chased and beaten in an attack in Greater Manchester.

The 36-year-old victim was knocked down on Market Place in Oldham on Saturday but managed to get up and run away.

His attackers caught up with him and "beat him senseless" with weapons, police said.

The victim suffered three fractures to his skull and is recovering in hospital, where his condition is described as serious but stable.

'Frightening'

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened at about 1800 GMT.

Det Sgt Darren Grafton, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This man was beaten senseless and the level of violence used - including trying to run him over - was frightening.

"The victim suffered three skull fractures, but it could have been a lot worse and we could easily have been dealing with a murder inquiry.

"The attack happened at a busy time on a Saturday so there would undoubtedly have been a lot of pub-goers and shoppers out at the time.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to call us."
