Body found in missing woman hunt

Mrs Cunnane has not been seen by her friends since Boxing Day

Police searching for a missing elderly woman from Stockport have found a body.

Joan Cunnane, 77, from Heaton Mersey, was reported missing by concerned friends on Tuesday, but had not been seen since Boxing Day.

Greater Manchester Police said they had been "incredibly concerned" for her welfare because of the recent cold weather.

The body, found by police searching a house in Heaton Mersey on Wednesday, has yet to be formally identified.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death has been launched.
