A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman who was killed when a bottle was thrown into a Greater Manchester pub.

Emma O'Kane, 27, was in the Queen Anne Hotel on Market Street in Heywood early on Saturday when she was hit in the neck with a shard of glass.

The mother-of-three was taken to hospital but later died.

Neil McNulty, 19, of Peel Lane, Heywood, was remanded in custody at Rochdale Magistrates' Court.

He is due to appear before Manchester Crown Court on 17 March.

Ms O'Kane was in the pub to celebrate the birthday of her partner, Michael Shepherd, who she planned to marry.

She worked as a barmaid at the pub, but was off duty at the time.

The couple had three children - Reece, six, Jack, two, and one-year-old Ellie-Mai.

A post-mortem examination showed Ms O'Kane died as a result of a wound to the neck.
