Man held over severed head murder

A 31-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder after a severed head was found in a bin has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The head of Patrick McGee, 63, was found in a bin on Parkhill Avenue in Crumpsall on Monday night.

A post-mortem examination concluded that he had been stabbed to death before his head was dumped in a wheelie bin outside his North Manchester home.

Mr McGee had lived in the property for 50 years.

Detectives have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
