Woman is shot in eye with airgun

An 18-year-old woman is seriously ill in hospital after being shot in the eye with an airgun, police said.

The woman was found badly injured on Oram Street in Bury, Greater Manchester, on Sunday afternoon.

She was taken to hospital where her condition is described as serious but stable, a police spokesman said.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently being questioned. Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
