Two held after man is shot in leg

Two men have been arrested after a man was shot in the leg close to a prison in north Manchester.

Police said the victim was found outside HMP Manchester in Southall Street on Friday night.

He is understood to have sustained his injury during an attack at a nearby garage but is not thought to be in a life-threatening condition.

Police said two men, aged 28 and 37, were being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.

Det Insp Trish Owen said: "Our inquiries are at an early stage and I do not want to be drawn on possible motives.

"What I would appeal for is that anyone who witnessed the incident come forward and speak to us so we can help build up a picture of what happened."
