Wigan Athletic's Lee Cattermole has been fined for a public order offence outside a Middlesbrough nightclub.

The club confirmed the England Under-21 midfielder was given a fixed penalty ticket after an incident on Saturday.

A spokesman said: "The club is investigating the incident and will deal with the matter internally."

Stockton-born Cattermole, 20, signed a three-year deal with Wigan in July in a transfer thought to be worth to be about £3.5m from Middlesbrough.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "Police in Stockton attended an incident outside a nightclub on Yarm High Street at approximately 11.40pm on Saturday.

"Three local men, aged 20, 21 and 23 were arrested and subsequently issued with fixed penalty orders for disorder."
