Man in court over model's murder

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a teenage model who was stabbed to death in Bolton.

Amy Leigh Barnes, 19, was found by police at her home in Farnworth and died later in hospital.

Ricardo Morrison, 21, formerly of Birmingham, appeared before Bolton Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody until 19 November.

Ms Barnes had modelled for Cosmopolitan and Nuts Magazine and had appeared in Channel 4 teen soap, Hollyoaks.

Laraine Mason, prosecuting, told magistrates: "The defendant is before you this morning charged with murder, the murder of his former girlfriend.

"The defendant appears before you in custody and the charge is indictable only."

The amateur footballer spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth during the brief hearing at Bolton Magistrates' Court.

Franklin Sinclair, defending, said there would be no application for bail.

More than 2,500 people have joined a Facebook group in tribute to Ms Barnes who was found with stab wounds at her home on Saturday.
