Van driver 'targeted' road victim

Police in Greater Manchester are investigating whether a man who was knocked down by van was targeted.

The 33-year-old was hit on Plank Lane in Leigh, but the driver did not stop or call an ambulance.

The victim suffered a punctured lung, broken leg and fractured pelvis. He is in hospital where his condition is described as "serious".

Police have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. They are appealing for witnesses.

They also want to speak to people who have seen a damaged white Fiat van since the incident on Monday night.

Det Con Rob Kitchen said officers were "investigating the possibility the driver may have deliberately hit the victim".
