Officer injured in robber arrest

A Greater Manchester Police officer suffered a broken foot when a suspected armed robber drove a car into him.

He was part of a team trying to arrest five men in a Saab car in Nantwich, Cheshire, as part of an operation targeting armed robbers.

However, as the officers approached the car the driver mounted the kerb on Welsh Row and drove into one of them.

Police said the men were then chased on foot to the back of Nantwich football ground, where they were arrested.

All five are now being questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

The driver of the Saab is also being held on suspicion of attempted murder.

The strike on the car was part of an ongoing Greater Manchester Police (GMP) investigation targeting suspected armed robbers.

Anyone who witnessed the incident at 1030 BST is urged to contact GMP.
