A couple from Greater Manchester have fallen six floors from the balcony of their holiday apartment in the Canary Islands, a hotel spokeswoman said.

Lee Cook, 28, and Jemma France, 18, from Ashton-under-Lyne, were discovered lying outside covered in blood by the hotel's night porter.

The couple were on holiday with friends at the Casablanca Apartments in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria.

The pair, who checked into the hotel on Monday, are recovering in hospital.

Ms France's parents have flown out to visit their daughter in hospital, the hotel said.

Blood-covered

Receptionist Isabel Bego said: "The night porter heard a noise in the early hours of the morning and checked all eight floors to see what had happened.

"A guest told him that they thought two people had fallen from a balcony so he went outside and found them there. They landed on plastic tables, which were covered in blood."

Emergency services attended the scene and the police remain at the hotel investigating the incident, she added.

They and their eight companions had booked four rooms between them, the hotel said.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We can confirm that two British nationals were hospitalised following a fall from a balcony in Gran Canaria last night.

"We are in contact with the authorities and consular assistance has been offered."
