Man held over fatal hit-and-run

A man has been arrested after a hit-and-run crash claimed the life of a Stockport pensioner.

Doris Wade, who was 89 and from Stockport, died in hospital after being hit by a car on Turves Road in Heald Green last Wednesday morning.

Police said the driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene or report the crash.

A 56-year-old motorist from Cheadle Hulme has been detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
