Boy hurt after hit-and-run crash

A 15-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Greater Manchester.

The teenager was found on Oldham Road, Middleton, on Tuesday evening and is believed to have been hit by a white or silver 4x4 vehicle, police said.

A police spokesman said the boy had suffered "nasty injuries" and could not understand why the driver had failed to stop after the collision.

The boy remains in a serious condition in hospital.

'Nasty injuries'

He is being treated for serious head and facial injuries, a broken arm and shoulder.

It is believed the teenager was in the middle of Kenyon Lane, at its junction with Oldham Road, when he started to cross towards Lomas Street.

Sgt Simeon Holt, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "This young boy has suffered nasty injuries and I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed what happened to come forward.

"It is difficult to comprehend how anyone could fail to stop following such a serious collision and it is vital we trace the driver."
