Man charged over policemen attack

A man has been charged after two police officers were stabbed while trying to stop an intruder at a Manchester house.

One policeman was slashed on the arm and the other was stabbed in the legs during the incident in Rudd Street in Harpurhey in the early hours of Monday.

Leon Smith, 23, of no fixed address, is charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent, assault with intent to resist arrest and three robbery counts.

He is due before Manchester City Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The stabbed policemen were taken to North Manchester General Hospital by ambulance but later released.
