A man was seriously hurt when he was hit by a police car in Manchester.
Officers in a liveried Ford Fiesta were responding to a report of intruders at a city centre premises and had their full emergency equipment activated.
The 37-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm and a broken leg. His injuries are not thought to be life- threatening.
The crash, just before 0100 BST, has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
An internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, which happened as the police car was travelling along Fairfield Street and passed through the junction with Ducie Street, is under way.
In line with force policy, the officer who was driving the car at the time has been withdrawn from driving duties, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
