Former landlady killed in freak water jet bike accident

A British woman has died in a sea scooter accident while on holiday in Ontario, Canada.

Pauline Moore, 62, from Wigan, Greater Manchester, is believed to have swerved to avoid another personal watercraft when she crashed on rocks.

The accident happened at McKay Lake in Bracebridge, north of Toronto.

Ontario police said she suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. It is thought that she died instantly.

A police spokeswoman said she did not have any "formal marine training" and that there was no indication that alcohol was involved.

'Great person'

Mrs Moore was staying with friends and relatives including her niece, close to where the crash happened.

Pat Luongo, the husband of Mrs Moore's niece Karen, said: "Pat was not your average 62-year-old. She was 62 but acted like she was 21, very young, energetic, in great shape.

"She was a lot of fun, just a great overall person and a tragic accident happened."

Mr Luongo, 39, of Oakville, Ontario, said they had planned to visit Niagara Falls and attend a Celine Dion concert with Mrs Moore.
