Explosion blows porch from house

The house in Parrs Wood Road in Withington
Police believe it was a firework or homemade bomb

An explosion has destroyed the front of a house in south Manchester, blowing out the porch and several windows.

Police believe a firework or homemade bomb was pushed through the letterbox of the house in Parrs Wood Road, Withington, on Wednesday night.

An 18-year-old woman who was in the house at the time was left shocked but uninjured by the blast.

Det Insp Will Chatterton said: "We are clearly dealing with people who have no regard for human life."

A number of windows of the house next door were also shattered in the explosion.

Parrs Wood Road was closed at its junctions with Heyscroft Road and Heathside Road while the scene was examined, but was later reopened.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crimestoppers.
