Police are urging three attackers who have left a man critically ill in hospital to hand themselves in.

Martin Bramhall, 25, suffered serious head injuries in the attack in Hazel Grove, Greater Manchester.

Police said his partner Mahjabeen Ansari has been at his bedside in Hope Hospital since Saturday's attack.

Det Ch Insp Simon Retford said: "At the moment, Martin's family is distraught by what has happened, but luckily Martin is fighting hard."

'Serious assault'

Mr Bramhall, a National Grid engineer, was attacked in the early hours on London Road after a night out.

Det Ch Insp Retford said: "This was a serious assault and is being investigated by us as a very serious incident.

"Many witnesses have been coming forward, but I don't think the offenders realise the seriousness of their actions.

"I am appealing to the consciences of those responsible, and those that know them; come forward and explain yourselves before we track you down."
