Woman impaled on religious statue

A woman is being treated in hospital after her arm was impaled on a Hindu statue in her home.

She fell on to 3ins spikes attached to the figure of the Hindu goddess Kali.

Emergency services were called to the house on Glendore Road in the Weaste area of Salford in the early hours of the morning.

Ambulance crews could not remove the statue so firefighters cut through the metal spikes. The woman is being treated at the city's Hope Hospital.
