Sex attack on woman walking home

A 20-year-old woman has been raped as she walked home from a night out in Greater Manchester.

Police said the victim had been left "extremely distressed" by the attack in the early hours of Sunday near Brooklands Road in Sale.

Detectives said specially trained officers were caring for her.

Det Sgt Frank Hayley, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This woman has been left totally traumatised by what has happened to her."

He added that detectives were working to establish the identity of her attacker.

"We want to reassure people that we are doing everything we can to make sure the person responsible is quickly caught.

"But we would also ask everyone to be aware of their personal safety, and would advise as a precaution against walking alone at night if possible," said Mr Hayley.
