Girl dies after barbecue accident

A six-year-old girl from Wigan has died a month after her dress caught fire at a family barbecue.

Shannon Davies, from Scholes, was at the event at a friend's house in Walthew Lane, Abram, when her dress caught alight.

She had been in a critical condition at Booth Hall Children's Hospital in North Manchester since 20 June, when the accident happened.

Police said the child had suffered 60% burns to her face and body.
