CCTV clue in rape investigation

CCTV of suspect
Police want to speak to the man in the photograph

Detectives investigating the rape of a 20-year-old woman in Manchester have released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to.

The victim got into a white Hackney cab close to the Birdcage nightclub in the city centre with a man she had met and was driven to Stretford.

The pair got out on Sandy Lane, where the woman was then raped.

Her attacker is described as black, in his early 20s, just under 6ft tall and of slim build.

Greater Manchester Police said he walked off after the attack in the early hours of 26 June.

As part of the investigation, detectives have reviewed CCTV footage and they would like to identify and speak with the man in the image.

Det Con Sandra Callender said: "We have been working hard to try to identify the man who carried out this horrendous crime.

"From looking at a number of CCTV cameras we have been able to identify a man we wish to trace.

"I would ask anyone who recognises this man to come forward and contact police."
