Aeroplane makes emergency landing

A light aircraft has made an emergency landing at Manchester Airport after it suffered technical problems.

The pilot of the Piper 34, which was flying to the airport from Blackpool, reported problems with the left-hand main undercarriage on final approach.

An emergency landing was carried out on Runway Two shortly after 1600 BST. The runway remains closed.

The pilot and two passengers on board suffered minor injuries and had to be cut from the wreckage by firefighters.

The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been informed.
