Woman killed in police van crash

A woman has died when the car she was travelling in was in collision with a police van answering an emergency call.

The woman was a passenger in a Seat Ibiza which crashed with the police van at the junction of Green Lane and Cromwell Road in Patricroft, Salford.

She and a child who was also in the car suffered serious injuries and were taken to Hope Hospital for treatment, but the woman later died.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is to investigate the case.

A second passenger in the car also suffered minor injuries in the crash, which happened at about 1530 BST.

Green Lane has been closed between its junctions with Liverpool Road and Cromwell Road while emergency services deal with the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Greater Manchester Police.
