Man in court over girl's shooting

Scene of shooting in Gorton
Detectives cordoned off the area around the victim's home

A man has appeared in court charged in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old girl in Manchester.

Sophie Finucane was shot in the head at her home in Ashover Avenue, Gorton, on Saturday morning and remains critically ill in hospital.

Wayne Bryan, 19, of Gorton Villa Walk, appeared before Manchester magistrates charged with wounding, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the city's crown court on 1 September.

Mr Bryan spoke only to confirm his name and address during the brief hearing at Manchester Magistrates' Court.

He is charged with possession of ammunition - a magazine with bullets - on 11 June, three days before the shooting.

The other charges all relate to the incident in which the youngster was injured on Saturday.
