Pc denies boy's custody assault

A Greater Manchester Police officer has denied assaulting a 12-year-old boy who was in custody.

Pc Daniel Gaffney, who is based at Wythenshawe, is alleged to have attacked the youngster at West Didsbury police station on 10 November 2007.

The 30-year-old, from Northwich, Cheshire, appeared before Warrington Magistrates' Court and pleaded not guilty to assault.

He was bailed and ordered to return to the court on 16 July for a trial.

The youth at the centre of the allegation cannot be named.
