Prison hostage situation resolved

Prison officers at a Cheshire jail have been dealing with a hostage situation between two prisoners.

One prisoner is believed to have taken another hostage at HMP Risley, near Warrington, on Tuesday morning.

The incident was brought under control by officers by 1130 BST, a spokesman for the Prison Service said.

Earlier this month staff at the jail called for more protection after a warder was stabbed during a disturbance in the exercise yard.

A spokesman said: "We can confirm a hostage incident took place at Risley prison this morning.

"Staff brought the incident to a conclusion at 11.29am".
