Arrests in racist chainsaw threat

Four people have been arrested after a group of men were threatened with a chainsaw in Bolton in a racially motivated incident, police said.

Three people were seen verbally abusing a group of Asian men on Prince Street, before a 17-year-old girl allegedly threatened them with a chainsaw.

Police said she held the saw inches from one man's head while shouting, before walking away and laughing.

Three men, along with the youth, have been detained on suspicion of affray.

Several witnesses called police to report the incident and officers traced the suspects using CCTV from the area.

The men, aged 23, 22 and 26, and the 17-year-old were arrested in Sefton Court a short time later.

They remain in police custody for questioning.
