Motorway crash causes tailbacks

A crash between two lorries has caused up to 13 miles of motorway tailbacks in Greater Manchester.

The vehicles collided near junction 18 of the M62 at Simister Island, near Prestwich, in the early hours.

One man was taken to Fairfield Hospital with whiplash and cuts and bruises and a second is being treated at Rochdale Infirmary for a suspected broken leg.

As a result of lane closures traffic is now queuing on the M62 westbound back to junction 22 at Rishworth Moor.

One of the three lanes has since reopened but motorists are still being advised to find an alternative route.
