Airport closes one of its runways
Manchester Airport
There are not expected to be any delays as a result
Manchester Airport has closed one of its two runways to allow maintenance work to be carried out.

Airport bosses said the work was routine and was scheduled to last until the end of the month.

All the runway's usual traffic will use the remaining runway and there are not expected to be any delays to flights.

The airport's managing director Andrew Cornish said: "We have chosen to do this during February - traditionally a quieter time before the summer period."

He added: "We hope to be able to manage all the aircraft on Runway 1 and don't expect this work to cause any significant delays.

"We're firmly committed to maintaining our high levels of service to both passengers and airlines and are mindful of the impact on the community."

Runway 2 is due to reopen on 29 February.
