Man in court over stabbing death

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of 16-year-old boy who died after being stabbed in the neck in Greater Manchester.

Andrew Holland was one of two boys stabbed outside a takeaway restaurant in Farnworth on Friday. The other boy is in a critical condition in hospital.

Mahmud Makxoudin, 21, of Madams Wood Road, Little Hulton, Salford, appeared at Bolton Magistrates' Court.

Mr Makxoudin, originally from Iran, was remanded in custody until 2 November.

He was also charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Single wound

Andrew, who lived in Trentham Gardens, Farnworth, was found collapsed and bleeding outside Ashy's takeaway on Friday night.

The second boy, who is also 16 but has not been named, remains in a serious condition in Rochdale Infirmary.

Both were initially taken to Royal Bolton Hospital where Andrew later died.

A post-mortem examination revealed he suffered a single stab wound to the neck which also punctured his chest.
