Shot girl's mother on gun charge

The mother of a 12-year-old girl shot dead in her home has appeared in court charged with possession of a pistol.

Natasha Peniston's daughter Kamilah was shot at her home in Gorton, Manchester, on 30 April and died later in hospital.

Ms Peniston, 33, appeared at Manchester Crown Court alongside a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The teenager is charged with the girl's murder and possession of a firearm and ammunition. Both defendants are due before the court again on 7 September.

Ms Peniston was given unconditional bail and the teenager was remanded in custody.
