Screwdrivers used in carjacking

A 48-year-old woman from Greater Manchester is recovering after two youths threatened her with screwdrivers before stealing her money and car.

The woman was getting out of her car in the Beech Hill area of Wigan on Tuesday evening when the youths struck.

They threatened to kill her before pulling her out of the vehicle and driving off in the car.

The woman was taken to hospital for a grazed wrist, stomach pains and a possible puncture wound to her leg.

The car, which was driven off towards Ascroft Avenue, was later found burnt out on Patterdale Place in Higher Ince.

'Vicious attack'

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack which happened on Forest Avenue at about 1820 BST.

The first offender is described as a slim, white male, aged 16 to 18, 5ft 5ins (1.65m) tall with a narrow face. He was wearing a grey hooded top.

The second is described as a stocky, white male, 5ft 6in (1.67m) tall who was wearing a dark-patterned piece of cloth over his head, covering his face.

Detective Constable John O'Donnell, from Wigan CID, said: "This was a vicious attack and I'd appeal for anyone who saw the incident to contact us.

"I'm also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the offenders abandoning the car on Patterdale Place in Higher Ince."
