Manchester City footballer Joey Barton has been arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.
The midfielder was questioned by police over an alleged argument with a taxi driver in Liverpool.
It is reported that the incident took place in the Wavertree area of the city earlier this month.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police confirmed a 24-year-old Widnes man had been arrested and released on bail pending further inquiries.
