Woman dies as car rolls over her
A 45-year-old woman died after becoming trapped underneath an empty car which rolled over her in Greater Manchester.

Rita Thompson, from Ashton-under-Lyne, suffered serious head injuries in the accident in Bredbury, near Stockport.

She was walking along Field Street on Saturday when the empty car rolled down a slight incline and struck her, trapping her underneath.

In a statement, her family said she was a kind and caring woman who would be missed by all who knew her.

'Close-knit family'

"Rita was the life and soul of the party and was very unique. They certainly broke the mould when they made her," they said.

"We are all devastated by Rita's sudden death. As part of a very close-knit family the impact of her death on all of us will be massive."

Mrs Thompson was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport after the incident but pronounced dead on arrival.

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
