A Greater Manchester woman has been arrested and could face extradition to Italy over alleged mafia links.
Ann Hathaway, 44, from Green Street, Middleton, was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police's Extradition Unit on Thursday.
The mother-of-two, who lived in Rome until November, was taken into custody on an extradition warrant issued by the Italian authorities.
She is alleged to have "participated in a criminal organisation".
Mrs Hathaway is married to Antonio Rinzivillo, who has been jailed for 30 years for murder and drug trafficking.
He was sentenced after being convicted of the murder of a Milan lawyer, Antonio Mirabelle.
Mrs Hathaway, who has not been charged, will appear before magistrates at the City of Westminster on Friday as part of the conditions of the warrant.
